Mothers and families worldwide deserve the best support they can receive for their babies, especially when it comes breastfeeding. Giving a little one the best start possible by providing optimal nutrition, love and care are vital to the growth of a child. Breastfeeding meet all three of those needs. That’s why Breastfeeding Perspectives supports the Global Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.
What is the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative?
In 1991 the WHO and UNICEF launched the Global Baby Friendly-Hospital Initiative. This international set of 10 standards ensures that participating entities that provide maternity and newborn services offer the best care and support possible for breastfeeding mothers. The initiative is now being revitalized. However, proposed changes to the Global Criteria could jeopardize the quality of care mothers receive.
Take Action Now
A Collaborative of 5 organizations, functioning as a sounding board for the WHO and UNICEF on this matter, issued this urgent letter this morning calling for advocacy to maintain the integrity of standards and the best care for families. (Check out our page for more information on WHO Codes and breastfeeding!)
Breastfeeding Perspectives would like to join in spreading the word about the status of the proposals as well as advocate for the maintaining of the standards that ensure the best quality of care around the world.
Join us today and help make family healthcare safer, better, and more baby-friendly!
