Let's Celebrate National Breastfeeding Month Together!
Today, in 2011, the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) officially declared that August was the National Breastfeeding Month(NBM) at a community baby shower event that was hosted by the DC Breastfeeding Coalition and the Howard University Hospital. Each year would have a new theme in observance of NBM. The theme for this year is “This Is Our Why.” It is all about shedding light and raising awareness on the importance of breastfeeding support while fostering a conversation on the babies and families that need it. Let’s celebrate together!

It's finally World Breastfeeding Week!
The first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week (WBW). WBW is part of a global campaign to raise more awareness to breastfeeding-related issues. The theme for this week is all about “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a difference for working parents.” This week we will be focusing on how breastfeeding impacts employment and women in the workspace.
Did you know that only 42 countries mandate workplace breastfeeding facilities? This is one of the many workplace challenges that women face. The truth is that women in the workplace need adequate time and support to breastfeed but this need is often overlooked. All working mothers need adequate maternity leave and support to be able to practice healthier breastfeeding.
What is your perspective on breastfeeding?
World Breastfeeding Week is so important because it promotes healthy breastfeeding by raising awareness and providing the information that mothers need. One way that you can celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and raise more awareness is by simply starting a conversation on the benefits of breastfeeding and how it can support the healthy growth of a child. You can start a conversation on social media, on your blog, or through a physical or virtual event. Feel free to share your breastfeeding experience and the lessons you learned. You can join a breastfeeding support group to learn more about healthy breastfeeding. You can also engage with companies and organizations that need more breastfeeding support in the workplace. So what are you doing to celebrate #WBW2023?
